There are some people that claim gay rights supporters are using these recent suicides as a way to get publicity. As far as I can tell people are using these suicides to show the public the despair these young people are in.
There are also people within the lgbtq community that are upset over the "It Gets Better" video campaign, saying that these videos are only going to reach a small segment of the community, privileged children, and that the ads are elitist, or at least pushing some sort of elitism. Let's not forget that these same people are complaining that the ads are ageist, by featuring older people telling their stories.
Sorry, f*ckers-if one suicide is prevented by these ads it's a step in the right direction. I am sorry that everything can't be addressed and fixed all at once.
Ageist? Really? I am not sure if these videos are supposed to feature just young people, but if they did I think they would miss a crucial point-people that are a little older are in a better position to give a longer narrative.
I think that the true ageism comes from people complaining about older people being involved, but that's the way the culture seems to be set up-you get to a certain age and you are supposed to just be silent and wait for death. No thanks.
